Know Your Site

Before you commit to going tiny, make sure you have checked on your local building codes for ADU (Alternative Dwelling Units) requirements for your city, state and county. Key things to look for are required setbacks, maximum number of ADUs on your site, required building permits, the difference between the way your jurisdiction treats Tiny Houses on a foundation vs. Tiny Houses on Wheels (THOW). If your Tiny Home is going to be the primary dwelling on the property, there are often other requirements and certifications that are needed, including electrical service and plumbing fixture counts.
